The Front

The business world is rocked when 75-year-old Henry Millstone, founder of LAM Chemical, dies without heirs and leaves the billion-dollar conglomerate to Bruce Stockton, a mid-level executive who was like a son to Millstone. Suddenly Stockton, a vice president of Marketing, becomes the sole owner of the world’s largest privately held chemical producer. Stockton institutes sweeping changes that baffle and infuriate LAM employees. Sales Manager Carolyn Mitchell, a hard-working African-American woman, commiserates with her trusted co-worker William. In their experience, Stockton’s a greedy, backstabbing, womanizing pig.

Carolyn fumes when, true to form, Stockton hires outsider hotshot Sam Barnes as his new Vice President of Marketing Communications, instead of Carolyn, who deserved the job and was in line for it. Carolyn openly badmouths Sam. Sam tries to charm his way past Carolyn's anger. He IS charming, but Carolyn's determined not to fall for it or get tangled in another office romance. Stockton warns Carolyn that her behavior against Sam has her on the verge of being terminated.

During a company party at Stockton’s lavish condo, Carolyn catches Sam digging through Stockton’s home office desk. Sam has no choice but to take Carolyn into his confidence: he proves to Carolyn that he’s an undercover police detective investigating illicit business practices. The two become allies, and several days later Carolyn even has Sam over for dinner. She introduces Sam to Katrin, Carolyn’s adolescent daughter. Never married, Sam's envious of their warm, loving family life. Katrina likes him, but Carolyn tells her not to get her hopes up.

With Carolyn’s insider help, Sam uncovers indications that Stockton is selling a biological weapon of mass destruction “off the books” to the highest bidder. Carolyn is horrified when she learns precisely what’s being sold. Carolyn used to be a highly specialized flavorist chemist for LAM, and explains the insidious weapon to Sam: it’s created with a catalyst that turns common everyday flavoring chemicals into deadly toxins. The cherry flavoring in sodas, for example. In mid-sip, Sam stops drinking his cherry soda.

Using cutting edge gear, Sam videos Stockton at a secret midnight meeting between Stockton and the buyers. Carolyn is crushed to see her friend William in the scheme with Stockton. Sam finds a tape in Stockton’s office  —  it shows Sam and Carolyn rummaging through his home office desk. Realizing he’s put Carolyn in danger, and that he's come to love her, Sam hurries her out of the building. William shows Stockton the security tapes of Sam and Carolyn spying on the sale meeting. Stockton realizes that he has to get hold of the video memory stick — at any cost.

After Stockton kidnaps Carolyn’s daughter, Megan confesses that she’s not just a police detective, she’s a C.I.A. agent. Stockton’s buyers are international terrorists. Carolyn angrily accuses Sam of endangering Katrina. Carolyn reveals she has not only snatched the video memory stick from Sam, she has also hacked Stockton’s secure computer files, downloading all the incriminating memos and transaction records. She’ll demands Sam go with her and give Stockton the video memory stick so they’ll release Katrina. Otherwise, she’ll destroy the files and the memory stick. She’ll do anything to get her daughter back safely.

Sam feels guilty and agrees to Carolyn’s demands. At an abandoned winery, a thrilling battle royal ensues. As Carolyn and Sam escape with Katrina in a tractor trailer, Stockton and his goons pursue on Harleys. With the help of Carolyn’s big rig driving skills and street fighting tricks, Sam wields his karate prowess and marksmanship skills to vanquish Stockton and the henchman, rescue Katrina. C.I.A. backup appears to arrest Stockton. Carolyn hands over the evidence that will put LAM out of business and Carolyn out of a job. But she realizes she loves Sam, just as he loves her. They kiss. Sam assures Carolyn: “Don’t worry, I’m sure the C.I.A. has the perfect job in mind for you!”
